Hello, folks. You must all remember the whole… episode we had a few days ago that spawned from this post. Which is not the first time it comes up as some of you may remember an incident involving Ask Yoshika and a few other blogs.
Regardless. I’m aware a lot of you don’t like dealing with drama but this is a very important thing I’ll talk about.
I was really hoping I would never have to touch this subject in my blog, but when you’re dealing with things neckbeards like I suppose it will show up eventually.
Rape culture. Continue at your own risk.
Recently someone as submitted to one of the Yukari ask blogs the following question:
If I change my set to Loli wriggle, will I need to watch out for Yukari rape? 0_0”
To which she replied with this. Which was a pretty civil way to handle it and she even posted a picture? Perhaps the original anon wasn’t thinking of the ramifications of that ask so this would clear things up and people would move on, right?
Which brings me to my subject.
Most of the people who think it’s fine to throw around the word “rape” as if it was nothing, while not rapists themselves, are people who fit one of more of the following criteria:
- Are male;
- Have never met someone who was sexually assaulted (or who they know was sexually assaulted);
- Were never raped themselves.
These people tend to live in a bubble, unaware of the real-world issues involving sexual abuse and assault. They’ve seen the word countless times in anime, and probably are the type of person who masturbates to hentai involving rape like it’s nothing.
However, rape is very much a real thing. And it’s horrible.
When I was 17 years old I started going out with a girl who at the time was 15. At some point while hanging out with friends the topic of AIDS came up. I nonchalantly remarked, “there’s not a chance either of us have AIDS, right?”.
Sometime later she sat down with me and told me about how she’d been raped when she was 13 years old and there was a very real possibility that she could have an STD she didn’t know about, because she never told her family.
Do you know why she never told her family? Or the authorities?
Because they were going to say it was her fault, and she knew this. In fact, she felt like it was her fault.
The rapist was someone close to her whom she’d have never expected would do such a thing.
Countless women are sexually assaulted every year and most of them don’t do anything about it, or when they do, they are called whores, blamed for what happened, accused of lying and never see justice done to the criminals. Yes, this is actually a thing that happens, so stop fapping to lolis for a minute and man up, idiot.
It’s not the same as being robbed. It’s mentally scarring, and in some cases also physically. No girl wants to lose her virginity to a rapist.
Women are taught from a very early age to be afraid. Don’t go into dark alleys, don’t go out alone, don’t dress like a slut. Every man has a dick and therefore the ability to molest you. Trust no one. And if it happens, it will be your fault, not theirs.
Men can’t begin to imagine how badly women have it in the world. I am a man, and I can’t. I already feel sick in the stomach whenever such a topic shows up, so I’m really sorry for the women who have to deal with harassment or worse. All of you have my sympathy.
But why is rape not an issue for men? Why are they able to joke around about it or see hentai involving rape scenarios with a straight face?
Because it’s an expression of “male superiority”. To rape a woman means to overpower her, to be stronger than her and to enforce that you’re the one in command.
The case with my ex-girlfriend? It was done as revenge. Not because the man couldn’t contain his horniness, but because he wanted to hurt her and mentally scar her. He wanted her to never forget what he did. And he succeeded.
The idea that men are stronger, and the ones in command, while women are weak and secondary is intrinsically related to rape culture. Sex is not a weapon for women (not in the sense that it can be used to scare and hurt) but is for men. It’s like every man is born with a gun on their crotch. How would you feel if you knew half the world carried guns in them at all times and could very well shoot you if you ever so slightly went “out of line”, and even if you didn’t?
Rape is not “just a word”. It has very real implications and brings up very painful memories for some people (see: Yukari’s mention of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, which is also a very real thing that most rape victims deal with). It makes people sick, depressed, suicidal. And while you’re laughing and enjoying your tentacle sex anime, countless women feel oppressed and helpless.
As far as ask blogs are concerned: It’s a taboo topic, so of course you should not treat it as a joke. If the admin makes a point of not wanting said topic to be brought up, don’t bring it up. That’s simply common courtesy and a not being a horrible human being. It’s not easy for some people to ignore these topics and not everyone can choose from a wide pool of answers where they can easily ignore the ones that make them uncomfortable (I’ve said this last time, too).
They’re doing this for free for your enjoyment. They don’t expect anything from you except for not being a dickhead. It’s something they do for their love of Touhou or whichever creative work they’re running an ask blog for, so it really doesn’t need to be an unpleasant experience for them. The Yukari admin is only 16 years old, and she’s already had to deal with sexual abuse. Imagine for a second it’s your daughter. Assuming of course you’re not such a horrible person that you would molest your own children. I wouldn’t be surprised if some of the people in this fandom actually were.
This is the reason you “don’t see women on the internet”. This is the reason anime and videogames are dominantly male subjects. Because people like that harass and scare away the women. Which makes me wonder: do these people deserve to have people take their time and effort to provide entertainment for them in the form of ask blogs or whatever? I really don’t think so.
So what do I ask of all of you? Something really, really simple. Don’t be a fucking dickhead and have some respect for these people who decided to do something for this fandom. If you just want to fap to lolis being raped, go back to danbooru and don’t show up again.
If you don’t agree with me in this topic, unfollow me. Unfollow Ask Udonge. Go away and don’t come back. I don’t want anything to do with you.
For that matter, I have disabled anonymous questions from all the blogs I run. I do this out of niceness for people who a) are too shy and b) don’t have tumblr blogs, but I’m aware of what’s going to happen thanks to this post. So if you want to talk to me about this subject, I don’t want you to hide between the protective mask of anonymity. I want you to say what you think to my face. Do you have the courage? Probably not.
